August 4, 2007, Saturday, Day 30 in Tuoamotos
Fakarava, north anchorageEarly birds are favored in these islands. The baker says he opens at 5:30 AM, by 8:00 AM, all the bread had been sold. Disappointed, we returned to the boat craving something sweet, buttery and succulent. Judy pulled out the yeast, sugar and flour and five hours later, we would indulge in hot cinnamon, raisin sticky buns (another first for Anya). Our excuse for such decadence was to celebrate our Webmaster's 40th birthday. He would have loved them. We ate his portions. Happy Birthday Wim!!!!
1100 sighted a green turtle swimming by the boat. We have seen so few since our arrival in the South Pacific.
We have spent 22 days in the Marquesas and 30 days in the Tuamotus, time to make plans for the remaining time on our VISAs, about 38 days left. We have yet to see the Society Islands, the next group of islands on our agenda. A three-month VISA is just not enough time. We understand why so many cruisers choose to return for two seasons in the South Pacific.Crew Anya:
First of al: happy 40th to my brother! I am sure he is having a wonderful day with Richard, his brand-new baby girl and the proud grandparents. I can't wait to meet my niece! Judy decided to make Sticky Buns. I have never had those and that was a good thing because now that I have, I am sure I want them again. They are delicious and they came straight out of the oven, on my plate, into my tummy! I spent the rest of the day on a complete sugar-induced, adrenaline high behind the sewing machine, working on The Dress, but it was sooo worth it! Hot Sticky Buns: another recipe to take home.
