FATU HIVA
June 21,2007, Thursday

Crew Sami:
Today is another school day. Dad is sewing up the jib still, although he is kind of close to the end. Yesterday, we had Tyler and Austin over to play Mah Joong. They were quite good at it, because Tyler won twice, and Austin won once. Surprisingly, Gaby didn't win once. I was sitting where Gaby usually sits, and I won twice. So, we are thinking that the position of the seat had something to do with winning. Mom made another batch of Moroccan pizzas, so we ate and played. Tomorrow, we are going to eat local food at one of the restaurants.

First Mate:
Daily weather includes gusty winds of over 35 knots, sudden rainfall and sunbursts. Even with the solar panels, the wind generator and the occasional running of our diesel generator, we are finding power a precious commodity. Are primary needs are for lights, water making, and refrigeration. Monitoring our energy capacity has had us change a few of our ways and first on the list to be changed, was no more movies and a greatly reduced ability to use the computer. In addition, our ability to connect with radio frequencies for propagation has been greatly reduced; we are closer to Aukland, New Zealand than we are to San Francisco, California. The distance is only one factor in what makes a strong radio connection. So, we love to hear from you, but for now, please keep your messages short. We need to receive weather bulletins, which are bundled with our personal emails and at the moment, the weather bulletins are smaller than some of the personal mail we are receiving.

Otherwise…we continue to live in Fatu Hiva, where the women are strong and big, and the men are handsome and lanky.

Crew Gaby:
The winds and rain are strong today, which puts certain projects on hold. Probably we won't be leaving to meet up with S/V Purrfection until Saturday. Sami and I are doing as much school as possible until we meet up with Purrfection.
