S/V Encanto underway to Suvarov Reserve
(Cook Islands, New Zealand)

October 2nd 2007, Tuesday

Captain: We're closing in on the end of our second day. It's been slow, averaging 3.9 kts., or about 95nm/day. At least we're not rolling a lot, and the sails aren't slapping all the time either.

For a while last night there was a cloudless sky, stars stretching from horizon to horizon. Pretty cool. We did get a bit of rain; then a half moon came up and lit up the ocean. Wave tops sparkled. I have got to remember these moments when I'm feeling not so hot.

I finally reached the moment of contentment yesterday, not caring about how fast or where other boats were, just happy to be here. This really is the part of this lifestyle I hate, moving on in different directions, saying goodbye to friends never knowing if paths will cross again. I go through this every time; one would think I would learn by now.

Not much more happening, the four of us are doing well. Judy hasn't been too sick, and Gaby has taken up the slack with heating the lasagna. Sam does her part with cleaning up and watches. I'm not doing the marathon watches anymore, during the day we all just rotate around.
